Italian Organ

1 Manual  and short Pedal
originally built by Vittino 1875
Ecole d' Matrisse, Nice, France
This instrument is a restoration/reconstruction of an Italian organ built in 1875. It has a free combination action (mechanical) and a spring chest made from black walnut. To our knowledge there is no such instrument in the US. It is interesting to know that the Italian art of organ building has developed quite independently of the rest of Europe until the late part of the 19th century. Little recognition has been given to this fact, partly due to the circumstance that the tracker organ revival movement has put much emphasis on the promotion of the north German/Dutch tradition. This is largely a Lutheran tradition. However there is still much to be discovered about Southern Germany, especially Bavaria, Switzerland and Northern Italy and their tradition of organ building.
